Rare 26-year-old Mini up for auction

Date:

London: A 26-year-old vintage Mini with only five miles on the clock is up for sale.

The limited edition Austin Mini was made in 1989 to mark the 30th anniversary of the cult car, however due to the car spending most of its life in a museum it is in near mint condition.

It is now going under the hammer for £18,000, which works out at £3,600 per mile.

Despite the tiny mileage, the red Mini is fairly well travelled.

It was bought by the Heritage Motor Centre Motor Museum in Warwickshire, before being brought by a dealer last year who has also never driven it.

In both cases it was transported to its new home with a trailer.

Matthew Whitney, of Charterhouse Auctioneers of Sherborne, Dorset, said: ‘This car has never been registered for road use and has spent most of its life in a museum.

‘The five miles on the clock is delivery mileage only and the condition is brand new – it is how it would be if it was being delivered to a garage ready for sale.’

Whitney also described the rare car as a ‘collection item’ and mentioned that putting extra miles on it would ‘reduce its value’.
