New research sheds light into lives of pandas

Date:

Washington: In a new study, researchers have looked into the lives of giant pandas, exploring their nature and living pattern.

The research was led by researchers of Michigan State University, who tracked the movements and interactions of five pandas in wild for 2 years, noted that pandas were not at all solitary as widely believed and even that they use their space very appropriately.

Vanessa Hull, a research associate at the university said that as per their observations pandas were found to be in the same part of the forest at the same time for several weeks in the fall and outside the usual spring mating season, which they actually they didn’t expect for that length of time and at that time of year.

The researchers also explained feeding strategy of pandas that they had around 20 or 30 core areas, where they sat down, munched bamboos and moved on to the next place, but after a long span of time they returned to their core areas, which reflected that pandas do remember successful dining experiences, and return in anticipation of re-growth.

The research is published in the journal ‘Mammalogy’.
