Middlesex recruit Kiwi paceman McClenaghan

Date:

New Zealand’s left-arm quick Mitchell McClenaghan will join Middlesex for the second half of their domestic T20 Blast campaign, the English county announced on Tuesday.

McClenaghan, who is currently turning out for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, will join Middlesex at the end of June and will be available for their final six group games.

The 28-year-old, who has played in 35 one-day internationals and 16 Twenty20 internationals for New Zealand, will replace South African seamer Kyle Abbott, who is due to leave Middlesex at the end of June.

“Replacing one high-quality overseas fast bowler with another was not easy, but we have managed to do this with the signing of McClenaghan,” Middlesex managing director of cricket Angus Fraser told the county’s website.

“Mitchell’s style, left-arm fast, gives him a point of difference and his skill has allowed him to take wickets wherever he has played.”

McClenaghan said: “It’s every player’s dream to play at Lord’s and I am delighted to have the opportunity to do so wearing a Middlesex shirt.”
