Piku Tanu Weds Manu Returns rule the roost

Date:

‘Piku’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, the former a family comedy, the latter a romantic one, are the new winners of the box-office.

Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film even in its second week got cash registers jingling. Piku continued to spread its magic worldwide and has turned out to become the biggest hit of 2015.

Whereas when it comes to director Anand L Rai’s filmmaking style, is obvious from his filmography – he makes stories that ‘romanticize’ love, but at the same time his movie promises a lot of fun altogether.

This means Tanu Weds Manu Returns the sequel film, gradually earned a lot of appraisal and appreciations around the globe.

Piku opened with Rs 5.2 crore, grew to Rs 8 crore plus on Saturday and Rs 11 crore plus on Sunday, maintaining well through week one and notching 2015’s highest second weekend collections. Still strong, it has ended 3rd weekend at a smooth Rs 71.72 crore.

But going the way it is, TWMR is likely to close the first week itself at a minimum Rs 60 crore, setting the pace for a possibly higher lifetime catch.

BoxOfficeIndia.com, citing its phenomenal day-on-day growth, has declared emphatically that the film could be “the biggest hit of the year and will also emerge the highest grossing film of the year surpassing the figures of Gabbar Is Back”.

The producers promoted it in a big way and the promos seem to have succeeded in impressing the viewers.

And, it obviously helped the film do a brisk business as it also saw a good volume of advance booking.

‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ received positive reviews from critics as well as viewers and the word of mouth took its business upwards on Sunday.

And on the sidelines, a still-stubborn Gabbar Is Back is inching towards the 90 crore mark. Let us see if these heroines outwit this ‘villain’!
