Mauresmo inducted into Hall of Fame

Date:

France’s Amelie Mauresmo, a two-time Grand Slam winner and former world number one, was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Expectant mum Mauresmo wasn’t able to attend the ceremony — on the penultimate day of the ATP’s Hall of Fame Championships in Newport — but there were plenty of luminaries on hand to pay tribute to her career.

“It’s an honor to have my career celebrated alongside those who I admired all my life,” the 36-year-old Mauresmo said in a statement.

Mauresmo spent a total of 39 weeks atop the world rankings in 2004 and 2006, winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2006 — when she beat Belgian Justine Henin in both finals.

She is one of three French women to win a Grand Slam title in the Open Era, along with Mary Pierce and Marion Bartoli.
