Samsung has finally unveiled the Galaxy Tab S2 series of tablets – Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 slates – which are claimed to be the South Korean company’s thinnest, as well as the lightest yet.
Both the tablets will be released in August but pricing details are not in as yet.
Samsung’s 8in Galaxy Tab S2 measures 5.6mm in thickness and weighs 265g, whereas the 9.7in variant is a trifle bulky at 389g and has an identical 5.6mm thickness.
The new Tabs is launched to compete iPad Air 2, Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, and Dell Venue 8 7000.
Taking cue from last year’s two iPads, the new Galaxy Tab S2 models also come with integrated fingerprint scanners.
Both the variants have Super AMOLED displays at 2048x1536p resolutions and run on Android Lollipop 5.0. The tablets are powered by 64-bit octa-core Samsung Exynos 7420 processor (two quad-core processors, one running at 1.9GHz and other at 1.3 GHz) along with 3GB RAM.
The tablets come with two internal memory options – 32GB and 64GB and supports micro SD card expandable up to 128GB. They also come with 8MP rear and 2.1MP front camera.
“The Galaxy Tab S2 is not only our thinnest and lightest tablet of its size ever, it also gives users quick, easy access to a wealth of superior viewing and productivity features,” CEO and President of IT & mobile division at Samsung Electronics, JK Shin, said.
