India advises Pak not to meet Hurriyat leaders

Date:

New Delhi: Ministry of External Affairs on Friday advised Pakistan not to meet the Hurriyat leaders ahead of NSA- level talks.
MEA said, “India has advised Pakistan yesterday that it would not be appropriate for Mr. Sartaz Aziz to meet with Hurriyat representatives in India.”

MEA said that such a meeting would not be in keeping with the spirit and intent of the Ufa understanding to jointly work to combat terrorism.

Pakistan High Commission on Tuesday invited the Hurriyat leaders which include Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

Last year, India had cancelled the foreign secretary level talks with Pakistan after Basit met Kashmiri separatists ahead of the planned meet.
