Date:

The ex servicemen have finally got their due.

New Delhi: The long awaited announcement on the One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme was made on Saturday by the Narendra Modi led-NDA Government.

Key Features

OROP will be implemented from July 1,2014.

2013 to be the base year.

Arrears for all war widows in one single installment, others to get in four half yearly installments.

Pension to be reviewed every five years.

One man judicial commission announced to review other demands.

Personnel who voluntarily retire will not be covered in OROP scheme.

“Govt took some time to fulfil its OROP promise, the expenditure in arrears alone would cost around Rs 10,000- 12,000 crore,” the defence minister said at a press meet.

Reacting to the announcement, leader of agitating ex-servicemen Maj Gen (retd) Satbir Singh said while the veterans were satisfied with Government’s intention to implement the OROP, they made it clear that the proposed benefits were not acceptable to them.

Rejecting the provisions for pension revision after every five years and keeping those who take VRS out of the scheme among others, Singh said, “According to us government has accepted one of our demands and rejected six…at this point we cannot withdraw the agitation based on these details.
