A cafe run by acid attack victims, Sheroes takes inspiration to a whole new level altogether!
You might have visited a lot of cafes around you, but now you have one more café to add on to your list. Well, you must be thinking what is so special about this café?
Yes, this café is special and different because it is started with the help of NGO Chhaya Foundation, which is governed by the five women who survived acid attacks namely Laxmi, Rupa, Chanchal, Ritu and Sonam.
About the café:
The name of this café is Sheroes Hangout and is located in Agra and now-a-days it is making a lot of buzz because of being a big initiative taken by these brave survivors. This project took almost a month to come up with an initial investment of Rs.3 lakh, much of which was done through crowd funding, which includes seventy % of foreign tourists who are both sympathetic and generous.
Speciality of this café:
This two floor café has a separate reading area which consists of books and journals on women empowerment. The cafe has bamboo furniture and plays Bollywood music. A large pin board is also placed with objects like chowmein, make-up and mobiles — all excuses for crimes against women, including rape, by individuals and bodies like khap panchayats are placed. This cafe also has a mini-boutique which displays clothes designed by 22-year-old Rupa from Muzaffarnagar.

Alok Dixit, founder of the ‘Stop Acid Attack’ campaign, said that more such cafes are in the pipeline. “This is our model project. Later, we plan to open cafes like these in Delhi, Kanpur and other parts of the country.”
