A woman and a minor girl were killed when an old water tank collapsed on them at a village in Niphad taluka of the district, police said today.
Both the victims were washing clothes with the tank water when it suddenly collapsed and the duo got trapped under its debris at Savargaon village here yesterday, an officer at the rural police control room said.
Later, the villagers retrieved both the victims out of the debris and rushed them to Pimpalgaon health centre where the doctors declared them dead, he said.
The deceased were identified as Jaya Dagadu Sonawane (28) and Vanita Khandu Lahange (12).
The bodies were later handed over to their relatives after postmortem, police said. The angry villagers demanded action against gram panchayat officials for not getting the old tank repaired since a long time.
Circle officer R B Borse and village sarpanch Sanjay Kushare visited the spot.
