PM Modi breaks silence on Dadri

Date:

Voicing his opinion clearly for the first time over the Dadri lynching and the protest against Ghulam Ali, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that they were ‘unfortunate’ incidents indeed, but asserted that the Centre could not be blamed and also lashed out at the opposition accusing them of playing ‘politics of polarization’.

“These incidents are unfortunate. However, there is no connection to the Centre since these issues are related to law and order and are the concern of the state governments”, the Prime Minister told in an interview to Anand Bazaar Patrika.

Prime Minister Modi stressed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has always been against ‘fake secularism’ and always opposed to ‘pseudo secularism’.

“Incidents like Dadri and Ghulam Ali are really sad but what is the role of the Centre in these incidents?,” The Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Modi had severely been criticised by the opposition for not speaking up on the incidents, while members of his party often made inflammatory remarks.

There has been a growing chorus against the ‘rising cases of intolerance’ in the country and the Centre has been targeted for not taking strict action.

The Shiv Sena had vehemently protested against a concert by legendary Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali and the launch of a book by former Pakistan minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri.
