Clampdown in Srinagar to stop ‘anti-India’ protests

Date:

Srinagar: Srinagar continues to reel under the tussle of ‘anti India’ protests that have disrupted life and brought the city to a standstill.

Strict restrictions have been imposed in seven police areas in order to stop the ‘anti-India’ demonstrations on Friday that have been called by Separatists to protest against the killing of a Kashmiri trucker by a mob in Udhampur.

The administration has decided to impose strict restrictions in city areas falling under police stations in Maisuma, Safakadal, MR Gunj, Nowhatta, Rainawari, Khanyar and Kralkhud to stop the protests.

Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for anti India protests today against the killing of Zahid Bhat the truck driver who was killed in a petrol bomb attack at Udhampur.

On Sunday, curfew like restrictions had been imposed in various areas of Srinagar to prevent Shias from taking out Muharram processions across the city.

Despite the restrictions, people tried to take out processions at Shaheedgunj and Karan Nagar, but they were stopped by the police and the paramilitary CRPF who fired tear gas shells and resorted to a baton charge.
