Naxals damage rail track, roads to protest cadre’s killing

Date:

Naxals damaged a rail track section and dug roads in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma and Dantewada districts as part of a day-long bandh called today in protest against killing of their leader.

Sonadhar,a senior commander of People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), was gunned down by Odisha Police in September this year.

Naxals removed about 400 metres track on Kirandul- Visakhapatnam rail route between Kakloor-Kumarsadra villages under Kodenar police station limits in Bastar district late last night, a police official said.

Security forces were dispatched to the spot soon after the incident. The maintenance work was underway on the track, he said.

Maoists also stopped a passenger bus at Dispur village under Pakhnar police station limits of Bastar last night when the private vehicle was on its way to Katekalyan from Jagdalpur district headquarters, he said.

However, when security forces reached there, the ultras fled from the spot leaving the bus and passengers unharmed, the official said.

The ultras also blocked routes in the interiors of Dantewada, Sukma and Bastar by felling trees and digging roads, he said.

Normal life was hit due to the bandh in Bastar as transporters stopped plying buses to the remote areas fearing Naxal attacks.
