Thackeray death anniversary: PM pays tribute; Uddhav, Fadnavis come together

Date:

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray came together on Tuesday to address a joint press conference, in Mumbai, on the occasion of the third death anniversary of Sena founder Bal hackeray.

CM Fadnavis said that a memorial for Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray will be built at the Mayor’s bungalow in the city, a site favoured by Sena. Speaking to the media, Fadnavis said:

“We decided to set up a memorial for Balasaheb Thackeray at the Mayor’s Bunglow in Dadar’s Shivaji Park… A public trust will be created to look after the memorial.”

At the temporary memorial built for the Sena founder at Shivaji Park, Fadnavis paid tributes earlier today. Uddhav was also present there. The joint presser comes close on the heels of open bickering between the allies, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Sena, coming against the backdrop of civic polls in Kalyan-Dombivali, earlier this month. Attacks had flown thick and fast between the allies, with the Sena threatening to even draw a close to the alliance, complaining of the BJP’s ‘arrogance’.

Sena won most seats in the civic election, but ended short of a majority, while the BJP put up a spirited fight. There were some signs of a patch up post the polls, suggesting that the hostilities was perhaps just poll posturing. Sena and BJP are sharing power in Kalyan-Dombivali, after the polls.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tributes to late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on his third death anniversary, saying he was committed to the well-being of people.
