Video of Johnny Manziel drinking champagne in a party atmosphere during the Cleveland Browns’ week off has coach Mike Pettine rethinking his plan for the quarterback to start the rest of the NFL season.
Manziel, who spent three months in a rehabilitation facility he entered voluntarily in January, was seen in video and photos purportedly partying with alcohol last week.
The situation leaves the struggling Browns, who share the NFL’s worst record with Tennessee and San Diego at 2-8, wondering about their direction entering Monday’s game against Baltimore (3-7).
“Disappointing. Very,” Pettine said of the situation, adding that he has not decided on a starter against the Ravens.
A week earlier, Pettine had handed the quarterback job to Manziel for the remainder of the campaign, a perfect chance to see if he might be the man to lead the Browns in the long-term.
In 16 seasons, the Browns have not had the same signal caller for three seasons in a row.
Last month, Josh McCown started for the Browns and helped produce a victory over Baltimore.
