Six-day digital film fest begins in Agartala

A six-day film festival is going on in Agartala. As many as 23 award winning films from six countries are scheduled to be screened at the film festival.

The 20th Agartala Film Festival, inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, is organised by Cinedelve, a body of film lovers, at the Rabindra Bhavan.

“This type of film festival has an additional importance and attraction, since here the audience along with the organisers present a number of films according to their choice and taste. This creates a relation between the organisers and the audience and sends a message which spreads and influences the society in creation of new films,” said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.

All total 23 movies, comprising of films made in Bangladesh, UK, Iran, Spain and Italy besides Hindi and Bengali films of India are scheduled for the festival.

The inaugural film screened at the festival was of award winning Bangladeshi director Gazi Rakayet’s ‘Mrittika Maya’ (Earthen Love) – the story of the life of an old Hindu potter Khirmohon who struggles to keep alive the dying potters business.

According to the director of the film, cinema is a very powerful tool which should be used for bringing people closer.

“A film or cinema makes a revolutionary work because there is a cinematic magic when one watches a movie in the screen. There is sound, beauty of the screen, everything all together and when the viewers watch the cinema, he falls in the magic and cinema can do it. So, I think this a very powerful medium through which we can take all people of the earth together in a common platform based on one word -human being,” said director Gazi Rakayet.

Film bugs expressed that every year they wait for this festival where they get an opportunity to see some of masterpiece films and such festivals are very necessary to inspire and aware the society the latest developments in the silver screen.
