Torrentz shutdown

Date:

Torrentz.eu, one of the world’s oldest torrent sites has shutdown. Now the content search on the website defined itself as, “Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines.” The website hosted no torrents of its own, but linked it to other sites, allowing copyright holders to take down infringing links.

The site posts, “Torrentz will always love you. Farewell.” for its users. It was founded in 2003 and became one of the most visited torrent sites.  Another website, Solarmovie, had also given up due to the fear of legal pressure.

The shutdown came quietly and marks the end of an era. Speculations are that it was due to legal action on piracy websites after arrest the KickassTorrents  30-year-old Ukrainian founder  Artem Vaulin.
