Two arrested for firing on Congress leader

Hyderabad, Aug 17 (PTI) A history sheeter and hisassociate were arrested for allegedly shooting at a localCongress leader in Bowenpally area here last week, police saidtoday. Dakuri Babu and his nephew Karne Umesh, who shot at DYadagiri on August 13, were arrested from here yesterday. Theywere sent to judicial remand today, Bowenpally Police StationInspector K Kiran said. The duo, on a bike, had waylaid Yadagiri who was onscooter near a hospital and attempted to kill him by firingthree rounds at him with two country-made revolvers, theInspector said. The accused had also opened fire inside the hospital andterrorised the patients before fleeing, he said. Yadagiri escaped with injuries. A case was registered and during the course ofinvestigation it came to light that Babu and Yadagiri residedin the same locality and were known to each other. "Babu bore a grudge against Yadagiri after he failed togive promised amount of money to him with regard to a murdercase of 2009 over a disputed land and for arranging a plot of100 yards," the Inspector said, adding, Yadagiri had mediatedin the incident. When Babu approached Yadagiri for payment, he avoided himfollowing which he decided to eliminate the victim, theInspector said. Police had seized two country-made revolvers, three liverounds from the scene near the hospital. Babu has a past criminal record and is involved in 14cases, including two brutal murder cases, besides robbery anddacoity cases and one Arms case. Eleven Non-Bailable Warrants(NBW) are also pending against him, theofficer added. PTI VVKDKAARSRE
