One killed, seven hurt in building collapse in Maihar,

Maihar (MP), Aug 20 (PTI) A woman was killed and sevenothers today when a three-storey building collapsed here inSatna district, officials said. One woman was killed and seven others have beeninjured in the incident, while 9-12 persons are feared trappedin the debris, Satna Collector Naresh Pal told PTI. The incident took place around noon when the MadhyaPradesh Housing Board building, consisting of residentialflats and some shops came down crashing amid incessantrainfall, he said. The deceased, yet to be identified, was rushed to ahospital where she succumbed during treatment, Pal said. "Initially, it appears that the building collapsed dueto sub standard material used in its construction. The 22shops on the ground floor were constructed in 2013-14, whilethe 20 residential flats on second and third floors were builtin 2014-15," he added. The official said there may be a possibility that thebuilding could not have withstand the water that had inundatedaround it due to persistent downpour for the past two-threedays.
