Chennai, Aug 25 (PTI) The ambitious ‘Act East’ policylaunched by India has complemented the ‘Look West’ policy ofThailand leading to an increase in trade between the twocountries, a Thailand diplomat said today. "Trade between the countries has significantly improvedin the past two decades especially when India’s Act Eastpolicy complemented Thailand’s Look West policy," KrongkanitRakcharoen, who recently took over as the new Consul Generalof Thailand in Chennai, said after calling on Tamil NaduGovernor K Rosaiah here. Stating that Thailand and India share "historicalrelations" in terms of social, economic and culturalinterests, she added that the Indian diaspora working inThailand strengthened the bond between the two countries. According to a Raj Bhavan release, Rosaiah said manypilgrimages by Buddhists in India result in large inflow ofThai tourists and added that the Thai language has influenceof Indian languages Sanskrit and Pali. Deputy Consul General Pornpimol Sugandhavanija, ConsulCommercial Jittima Nakamano, Consular Officer Syed MohamedYusuf, Governor’s secretary Ramesh Chand Meena were alsopresent on the occasion.
