Lucknow, Aug 28 (PTI) Major rivers in Uttar Pradesh havestarted receding as no fresh rainfall has been reported in thestate. According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) report,river Ganga is receding everywhere in the state but it isstill flowing above danger mark at Varanasi, Ghazipur andBallia. Water level in river Yamuna has also gone down whileSharda is flowing above danger mark at Palliakalan (Kheri), itsaid, adding that rivers Rapti and Ghagra have also startedreceding with no fresh rains. According to the MeT office, rain/thunder show is likelyat isolated places over eastern UP. A total of 8.7 lakh people in 987 villages in Varanasi,Allahabad, Ghazipur and Ballia are affected due to flood.
