Salt export decreases

Tuticorin, Aug (PTI) Salt export from this district,the largest producer of salt in Tamil Nadu, has come downin 2015-16. While 71084 tonnes of salt was exported in 2014-15 itwas to 36,918 tonnes in 2015-16, mainly due to competitionfrom Gujarat and other countries including Iran and Pakistanentering export markets. In July 2015, 11500 tonnes of salt was exported fromTuticorin. But this came down to 9857 tonnes this July. Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea which used to importsalt from here were now importing from Gujarat.PTI CORR SSNRC
