Strategy prepared to make Haryana polythene-free: Minister

Chandigarh, Aug 30 (PTI) A strategy has been prepared tomake Haryana polythene-free, Urban Local Bodies MinisterKavita Jain informed the state Assembly today as she appealedfellow lawmakers to dissuade people from using such bags. She said it is duty of public representatives to makepeople aware and encourage them not to use polythene as itsusage has already been banned in the state since 2013. She said as part of the strategy to make the statepolythene-free, a committee has been constituted. Jain was replying to a question raised by MLA NagenderBhadana on the third day of monsoon session of the Assembly. She apprised the House that more than 200 camps havebeen organised to generate awareness among people for notusing plastic bags. Apart from this, a sum of Rs 7.02 lakh has so far beenrecovered through 2,136 challans. Jain said though there was no manufacturing unit ofpolythene bags in the state, yet problems were arising due toits transportation from neighbouring states like Uttar Pradeshand Delhi.
