Priority on building digital highway to connect every village:

Assam CM Guwahati, Sep 1 (PTI) Assam Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal today asserted that his government’s utmost priorityis to build a Digital Highway so that every village of thestate is digitally connected within the next five years. "Each rural household will be digitally connected so thatpeople can get their needs fulfilled without having to travelto bigger cities and towns," Sonowal said in his address atthe Northeast Information and Communication Technology (NICT)Conference 2016. He said the best way to connect with youths is throughdigital medium and this government is going to fulfil theirhopes and aspirations through sincere and dedicated work. Calling on all IT players of the country to be part ofthis revolution, the Chief Minister said better InformationTechnology infrastructure will be put in place in partnershipwith private players to make Digital Assam a reality. Better bandwidth will be facilitated so that Internetconnectivity in the state does not suffer, he said. Speaking on the occasion, state Education MinisterHimanta Biswa Sarma said Digital Clubs will be set up in everyvillage of the state from where people can directly availgovernment services. The Digital Clubs will facilitate services like air andrail ticket booking, digital books apart from essentialgovernment services making the dream of e-Governance areality. The E-Gram project will be henceforth handled by the ITDepartment of the state for seamless connectivity within thevarious departments. PTI DG SUSNSD
