Criminals operating in India, Nepal held for extortion: Police

Kathmandu, Sep 6 (PTI) Two members of a criminal gangoperating in India and Nepal have been arrested for allegedlymaking threat calls to blow up a school in southern Nepal’sRautahat district if they were not paid 50 lakh rupees. Munna Kumar Yadav, 27, and Awadh Lal Mahato, 39, hadthreated to kill Ravishankar Yadav, the principal of NemdhariBasudev Higher Secondary School in the district, and blow upthe school if their demand was not met, police said. The duo made the threat calls and sent texts usingdifferent SIM cards and claimed that they were members of agang operating in Nepal and India, they said. The principal received the first threat call on August 21for five million Nepalese rupees (Rs 31 lakh). He was askednot to discuss the episode with anyone, or he would be killed. Police said the suspects were arrested on August 30 aftera thorough investigation. Later, they were presented beforethe Rautahat District Court and remanded into custody. PTI SBPABH
