A 23-year-old pregnant woman died today after she allegedly set herself ablaze, due to harassment from her husband and an inquiry by the Revenue Divisional Officer has been ordered, police said.
Ammu set herself on fire after pouring kerosene over her at her village Vippedu near here late last night, they said, adding she was six-months pregnant.
“She was rushed to GH and later shifted to the Kilpauk Government Medical College Hospital in Chennai for treatment for her burn injuries,” a police official told PTI.
He said the victim later succumbed to her injuries at the Chennai hospital and in her statement to police before dying, she alleged harassment from her husband as reason for taking the extreme step.
She was married only a year ago. He said an inquiry by the RDO has been ordered
