Gifts life, dies after a boxing tournament

A life was saved in an hour and 50 minutes as a heart was airlifted from Surat in a private chopper, and landed in Mulund.

In Surat, Kiven Rameshbhai Gajera (19), won the bout but collapsed after a few minutes, while participating in an inter-college boxing tournament.

Brain haemorrhage took his life, after two days in the hospital.Meanwhile in Mumbai, a 15-year-old boy, was fighting for life from restricted cardiomyopathy.The NGO Donate Life, counselled Mr. Gajera’s family to donate his organs.

The 15 year old, originally from Ahmednagar, lived near the hospital in Thane so he can make it to the hospital on time should a heart become available.

Mr. Gajera’s family also donated his kidneys, liver, pancreas and eyes.
