Cauvery row: 700 additional central forces rush to Karnataka

New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) An additional 700 riot controlpolice personnel have been rushed to Karnataka to tackle thesituation arising out of the protests over Cauvery river watersharing. The Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been sentto the violence-prone areas of Karnataka to assist the localadministration to ensure peace, official sources said. With this, a total of 1,700 paramilitary personnelhave been deployed in violence-hit areas of Karnataka formaintaining law and order. An uneasy calm prevailed in Bengaluru today afteroutbreak of violence over the issue of sharing Cauvery Riverwater with Tamil Nadu, as Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah governmentwarned of "stringent" action against vandalism or attempts todisturb peace. Yesterday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh called upChief Ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and assured themall central assistance in handling the law and order situationin the two states which have been hit by violence over Cauverydispute.
