Kohima Bench reserves order on Zeliang

Kohima, Sept 16 (PTI) The Kohima Bench of the Gauhati HighCourt today reserved its judgement on the educationalqualification of Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang. The counsel representing Zeliang and the petitionersMaziezokho Nisa and K K Kulimbe, submitted written argumentsbefore Justice M R Pathak who then reserved his judgement. The petitioners had on August 18 challenged in HC the July29 order of the lower court which dismissed the cases onZeliang’s educational qaulification. The petitioners filed a criminal revision petition beforethe Kohima Bench of the high court claiming that they werewithin the limitation period as per the high court and SupremeCourt orders. Justice Pathak heard arguments from both sides onSeptember 14 while the written arguments were submitted today. The judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) of Peren had onJuly 19 dismissed a complaint against the alleged offencepunishable under Section 125A of the Representation of PeopleAct, 1951, purported to have been committed by T R Zeliangwhile filing his educational affidavit for 2013 state polls,holding that the petitioners were too late in filing thepetition before the court.
