Presidents of Afghanistan, Lanka call up PM over Uri attack

New Delhi, Sept 20 (PTI) In the wake up Uri attack,Presidents of Afghanistan and Sri Lanka today called up PrimeMinister Narendra Modi to condemn the "cross-border" terrorstrike and shared the resolve for sustained efforts toeliminate the threat of terrorism. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani made a phone call to thePrime Minister this morning and expressed his condolences tothe families of the martyred soldiers. Ghani strongly condemned the cross-border terror attackand conveyed Afghanistan’s solidarity and support with Indiafor all actions to eliminate the threat of terrorism, a PMOstatement said. Modi thanked Ghani for Afghanistan’s support. Later in the day, Sri Lankan President MaithripalaSirisena called up Modi to express condolences over the lossof lives in the Uri attack. Sirisena strongly condemned the cross-border terroristattack and offered condolences to the families of the victims,the PMO said. The leaders spoke of the need for sustained cooperationamong countries of the region to end the scourge of terrorismin the region. Heavily-armed terrorists suspected to be from Pakistan-based JeM stormed an army base in Uri in Kashmir on Sunday,killing 18 jawans. PTI AKKAKK
