In what could be a new year’s treat for Nexus 6 users, Google has now confirmed that it’s 2014 flagship will receive Android 7.1.1 update sometime in early January.
In a response to the query, Google said:
“Unfortunately, we found a last minute bug that was specific to the Nexus 6, which has caused the delay of the 7.1.1 OTA rollout. We’ve since fixed the issue and will be rolling out an update in early January.”

As mentioned in the response, the update will be rolled out Over-The-Air (OTA), so it might take some time until it reaches each and every Nexus 6 owner.
Android 7.1.1 is big deal because apart from Google Pixel, no other Google device i.e. older Nexus devices received Android 7.1.0 update. To brief out, Android 7.1.1 brings in a lot of improvements and features such as app shortcuts, keyboard image insertion, circular app icons support, manual storage manager, Touch/display performance improvements etc.
