Delhi govt plans to introduce AC Maxi cabs

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi government has planned to introduce a ‘Maxi Cab’ service with air-conditioned vehicles to provide “last-mile connectivity” to the residents of the city.

Transport Minister Satyendar Jain has planned the scheme under which ‘gramin sewa’, ‘phat-phat sewa’ and ‘eco-friendly sewa’ would be clubbed, sources said.

As per the plan, only air-conditioned cabs will be given permits by the transport department and the scheme is expected to be introduced in the next few months.

The AAP government had last year announced a scheme ‘City Taxi’ service under which permits were issued to 600cc vehicles. The fare for the service was fixed at Rs 10 per km.

As per the new scheme, the taxis should have a panic and hooter button as a safety feature.
