Telangana breaks power supply for Andhra MLA headquarters

Due to the non-payment of electricity bills, Telangana discontinued the power supply to Andhra Pradesh MLA headquarters in the city.

Following complaints from an MLA residing at the quarter to the AP Assembly affairs authorities, the AP government released the funds and the power was restored. The MLA quarters at Adarsh-Nagar and Hyderguda have been divided between the two governments after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and residual AP.

Andhra Government has to pay Rs. 16 lakh to Telangana telecom, according to the reports. Andhra assembly department failed to clear the bills, forcing Telangana telecom to cut power for Andhra MLA headquarters.

Speaking to the newspaper, an officer from the AP Assembly affairs department said, “Since February and March are the busy time clearing bills, our cheques became invalid due to fund deficiencies. However, on Monday, following calls from an MLA present at the MLA quarters, the funds were released and the power was restored. The official said that the amount was transferred online.
