Raj Babbar offers to resign as UP Congress chief; Jitin Prasada likely to replace him

Date:

New Delhi: In what could be an unanticipated move Raj Babbar on Wednesday offered to resign from the post of Uttar Pradesh Congress chief.

According to reports, Babbar conveyed to top leadership and party leaders that he was given an important responsibility of being AICC President in UP and he tried to deliver the best.

He reportedly said that it’s for the top leadership now to analyse the work done by him and that young faces must get a chance. The development comes after the Congress’ worst performance in recent Lok Sabha bypolls to Gorakhpur and Phulpur.

Thought the resignation is yet to be accepted, meanwhile, Union minister Jitin Prasada is expected to replace him.

The two seats hold importance in state politics and the bypolls there were necessitated after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath resigned from his Gorakhpur seat to form BJP government in the state, and Phulpur representative Keshav Prasad Maurya stepped down to take the post of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister.

Earlier on Monday, Goa Congress President Shantaram Naik resigned from his post saying he was “Inspired by Rahul Gandhi’s speech.”
