Mehbooba to seek fast track court for Kathua rape

Date:

According to sources in close to the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, the CM is all set to request the High Court Chief Justice, Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar for the establishment of a special fast track court for the Kathua Rape case.

According to the sources, this special fast track court – if granted – would be the first in the state. It will be expected to complete the trial in 90 days.

The nation has been on the boil over the Kathua gang rape where an eight-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, drugged, raped, tortured and killed in January.

Earlier, Mehbooba had expressed her anger over the incident saying that the State government will bring in a new law to make death penalty mandatory for those who rape minors.

She also called for exemplary punishment for those responsible for the crime.
