To his credit, Indigo has grown eight-fold in revenue terms during Ghosh’s ten-year stint. IndiGo listed on the stock exchange under Ghosh in 2015, with the largest IPO in aviation history ($4.5 billion). Its current market cap exceeds Rs 55,000 crore. The airline is in the midst of an ambitious expansion plan.

Aditya Ghosh was a part of the low-cost airline even before it started operations. With a degree in law, Ghosh was working with a PR consulting firm which was hired by IndiGo’s parent company InterGlobe before the airline was launched. He eventually joined IndiGo as its Legal Counsel. In 2007, Ghosh was inducted to the airline’s board and he became its President the following year, heading operations and management of IndiGo.

Recently, the airline has been in the news for the wrong reasons. One of them was the technical issues with the Pratt and Whitney engines. Indigo’s decision to bid for Air India and the subsequent retraction once the terms and conditions and bidding criterion for the Maharaja were made public, led to a decline in the airline’s stock. The brand image of the airline also took a beating when a few incidences of passenger manhandling came to light.

Indigo’s new flight plan will be closely watched.
