Sensex ends at a three-month high; Nifty ends above 10,800

The 30-share benchmark Sensex surged to a 3-month high ahead of Karnataka polls and the Nifty50 recaptured 10,800,
tracking gains in global equities.

Sensex ended 289.52 points higher at 35,535.79, while the Nifty50 ended 89.95 points up at 10,806.50. The southern state will vote on Saturday and the poll outcome will be known on May 15.

Among individual stocks, Asian Paints hit a record high on strong March-quarter results and was among the top contributors to index gains. Shares of Fortis Healthcare ended 3% lower at Rs 148 on the BSE after the company said the board chooses the Hero Enterprises-Burman Family Office to offer as the best for the hospital and diagnostic chain.
