Sensex, Nifty close flat after hitting record highs

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed 26.09 points down at 37,665.80, on Tuesday, while the Nifty 50 ended 2.35 points higher at 11,389.45 dragged by energy and PSU bank stocks.

Stocks in Asia and Europe gained following Wall Street as strong corporate profits helped to defuse fears over US-China trade tensions. Oil prices rose with revived US sanctions against major crude exporter Iran expected to tighten global supply. Trump administration restored some US sanctions on Iran and reaffirmed plans to impose tougher penalties in November.
