Mercedes Benz launches revolutionary digital headlight technology

Date:

Mercedes Benz, the iconic luxury car manufacturer, released a new limited edition digital led headlight technology, in their premier S-class range of sedans. With more than 1 million micromirrors per light, these new headlights not only brighten up the road spectacularly, but also have the ability to display customized messages on the ground.

The car, which debuted at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, was a big hit with the media and fans of the automobile company.

The car’s “Digital Light” technology is controlled via an onboard computer that allows drivers to input a customised message, dim lights and even use them to project navigation guides, road conditions or traffic warnings on the road in front of them. These lights have also been designed to be safer than the average multi beam lights, which often blind drivers and lead to accidents. The car uses cameras and sensors to detect objects around the vehicle and then uses the Digital Light system to project symbols and warnings, eliminating the need for the driver to look at the dashboard.

The highly advanced headlights also have the capability to display graphic warnings for low-grip road surfaces, construction sites and potential rear-end collisions as well as driver assistance, which includes lane-keeping, blind-spot and speed limit.

In a press statement, Ola Kallenius, the head of Mercedes Benz Car Development, said “With a resolution of over one million pixels per headlamp, Digital Light not only creates ideal light conditions for every driving situation; it also extends the visual support from our driving assistance systems.”

This feature is only available on top of the line Maybach models, and is clearly intended for the elite class. With a price point of $168,800, this marvellous technology certainly doesn’t come cheap.
