Veteran actress Nafisa Ali diagnosed with cancer

Veteran actress and social activist Nafisa Ali, on Saturday, announced through a social media post that she has been diagnosed with stage 3 cancer.

She posted a picture with politician and friend Sonia Gandhi with a jolly caption reading, “Just met my precious friend who wished me luck & to get well from my just diagnosed stage 3 cancer .”

Nafisa Ali has worked in many popular films such as ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’, ‘Life… In A Metro’, ‘Major Saab’ and the Shyam Benegal classic ‘Junoon’. She was last seen in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3’, where she played the role of Sanjay Dutt’s mother.

She also had a period in politics, when she had contested the Lok Sabha election in 2009 from Lucknow on a Samajwadi Party ticket. She rejoined Congress in November that year.

In the past, the Indian film industry has seen Bollywood stars like Sonali Bendre, Irrfan Khan, and Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife Tahira Kashyap, being diagnosed with this deadly disease before.
