The viral video of a delivery boy eating from packets that he was out to deliver, has been creating social uproar.
And now, in order to control the damage and to repair its reputation, food delivery major, Zomato has issued a statement that it would introduce tamper-proof tapes to seal food delivery boxes.
The video, which was shared widely on Facebook and Twitter, shows a Zomato food delivery boy eating from each packet and then repackaging them.
Zomato was at the receiving end as hundreds of customers came forward to take this issue up. They had earlier complained of getting lesser quantity of food than promised on the menu.
Social media was upbeat with mixed responses. Some felt that the situation was an indicator of the harsh circumstances that they work in. That they could be so underpaid, starved during long hours of work that he was forced to take the food. Also, the social media trial that the case underwent, blew it beyond the required.
On the other hand, people also felt that they would think twice before ordering online now onwards and that work ethics need to be followed.
Facing harsh criticism from users, the Bengaluru based food tech company said, “Last night, we came across a video of a delivery executive in a Zomato t-shirt, carrying a Zomato delivery bag, eating food out of boxed orders and replacing each one after resealing them, back into the delivery bag. The video suggests that he consumed some of the food meant for delivery to users, on his way to the drop points. We want our users, restaurant partners and all stakeholders to know that we take these kinds of reports extremely seriously.”
Zomato said that it has found out that the agent was from Madurai in Tamil Nadu and has since been taken off.
