Mumbai: Fire breaks out in Chembur; 5 dead, 2 injured

Five dead and two people including a fireman were injured after a major fire broke out in a 15-storey residential building in Chembur, Mumbai on Thursday night.

Level-2 fire breaks out on the 14th floor of Sargam Society near Ganesh Garden in Tilak Nagar and soon intensified into a level-3 fire, news agency ANI reported.

According to the initial reports, the fire started at 7.50 pm and firefighting operations are still underway.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Sunita Joshi (72), Bhalchandra Joshi (72) and Suman Shrinivas Joshi (83).

In the last few weeks, the fire incidents in Mumbai have been on a rise. According to reports at least 16 persons have died in multiple incidents of fire in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
