We will expose this conspiracy before the people of India; Ravi Shankar Prasad on EVM hacker

Date:

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday alleged that the Congress had organised the EVM hackathon in London in which a cyber expert claimed that the 2014 general elections were rigged.

“We will expose this claim,”  Prasad said, adding that the Congress was insulting the 2014 mandate.

On Monday a person claiming to have designed the Indian electronic voting machines, or EVMs, claimed the 2014 general elections were ‘rigged’ as the EVMs were hacked.

Addressing a press conference in London via Skype, the man, identified as Syed Shuja, said he fled India in 2014 because he felt threatened in the country after some of his team members were found dead.

Prasad said that in 2014, UPA was in power, not BJP. “Where is the logic in accusing us of hacking EVM when we were not in power?,” he added

Shuja said the BJP would have won Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh elections if his team hadn’t intercepted the BJP attempts to hack the transmissions in these states.

Photographs of Congress leader Kapil Sibal attending the event and being present at a press conference emerged later on Monday. Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi had said Sibal was invited by a journalist and he did not represent the Congress party at the press conference.

The London event was organised by the Indian Journalist Association (IJA). Prasad said that Ashish Ray, the president of  London unit, is a contributor in National Herald.

“He (Ray) praises Rahul Gandhi a lot in his column in National Herald,” the BJP leader said.

Prasad further noted that people across the world praise India’s Election Commission for conducting elections in a free and fair manner. But ‘today, the Congress is attacking the democratic institution.’
