Every year World Sleep Day is celebrated on the 15th of March. ‘Healthy Sleep, Healthy Aging’ is the theme of World Sleep Day this year. It is a recognized awareness event with researchers, health care people, and patients come together to understand the importance of adequate sleep and its impact.

Inadequate sleep could lead to medical conditions like heart stroke, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even weight gain. Sleeping less than six to eight hours, reduces leptin and stimulates ghrelin which tends to cause bouts of hunger.

Inadequate sleep alters the way your brain functions. This may make it difficult for you to make healthy choices and resist tempting foods.

Therefore, you should always try to sleep for at least six to eight hours a day.
