Zuzana Caputova, a 45-year-old lawyer and anti-corruption activist was elected as the Slovakia’s first female president on March 30. She gained prominence as a lawyer when she led a case against an illegal landfill lasting 14 years.
Caputova, who has almost no political experience, defeated high-profile diplomat and vice president of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic from the governing party in a second round run-off vote.

Zuzana is a vocal critic of the Government in Slovakia, anti-corruption campaigner and promotes LGBTQ+ rights in a country where same-sex marriages and adoption are still illegal.
She won about 58% of the ballot, while Sefcovic garnered 42% of votes.
Caputova was among the protesters who took to the streets after the murder of an investigative journalist Jan Kuciak in 2018. Kuciak was looking into links between Slovak politicians and the Italian mafia when he was shot alongside his fiancée in February 2018.
