The Election Commission of India (ECI) officials will meet on Friday to discuss assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir government officials are also expected to attend the meeting to assess whether the state assembly elections can be conducted in June this year.

The last Assembly election was held in 2014, in which the BJP-PDP formed a coalition government. However, in June 2018, the saffron party had withdrawn support to the PDP, led by Mehbooba Mufti in the 87-member state assembly.

Besides, the Lok Sabha poll in the norther state is underway and scheduled in the first five phases of the seven-phase election.

Since the fallout of the coalition government, the state has been under President’s rule.
