Kerala records highest poll percentage in 30 years

Kerala recorded the highest polling in the last 30 years with 77.68 per cent turnout on Tuesday in the third phase.

While Kannur constituency recorded the highest polling with 83.05 per cent of the voters casting their votes, Thiruvananthapuram observed the lowest polling with 73 per cent of the electorate coming out to vote.

The total strength of the electorate in the southern state is 2.61 crore. It was in 1989 Parliamentary elections that the Kerala had witnessed a polling of 79.3 per cent.

The highlight was the more than 80 per cent polling in eight constituencies – Kannur, Kasargode, Vadakara, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Alathur, Chalakudy and Alappuzha.

In the 2014 polls, 74.02 per cent votes were polled in the southern state, in which the UDF had won 12 seats, LDF 8 while BJP failed to open its account.
