PM Modi, Amit Shah hold brainstorming meeting over new cabinet ahead of swearing-in

New Delhi: Ahead of the momentous swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Tuesday held a 4 to 5-hour long brainstorming meeting to discuss the new cabinet.

Though there has been no official word on about the outcome of the meeting, reports suggest that names for ministerial berths in the new government were being finalised.

According to reports, the ministers, who are likely to be sworn in along with Modi might start receiving calls from directly from PM Modi from Wednesday evening.

Moreover, it has been speculated that BJP chief Amit Shah who won his first Lok Sabha poll from Gandhinagar might be inducted into the new Modi cabinet.

Since, BJP follows ‘one man, one post’ policy, if Shah joins the government, reportedly, JP Nadda is likely to replace Shah as BJP President.

Meanwhile, all chief ministers have been invited for the ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, which will be held between 7 pm and 8:30 pm on Thursday. Invitations were being sent to prominent opposition leaders as well, the people added.

The will be attended by leaders from BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) nations which includes Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan.

The foreign ministry said all nations have confirmed their attendance.

From Kolkata, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee said she will attend the swearing-in ceremony.

“We will attend the programme. There are certain ceremonial programmes where attending amounts to Constitutional courtesy. But there is only one day in between. We will try to attend,” Banerjee said.

Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, will also attend Modi’s oath-taking ceremony.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal too will attend the swearing-in ceremony.
