CWC’2019: Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by 34 runs

The Lankans defeated Afghanistan by 34 runs in the ICC Cricket World Cup match in Cardiff on Tuesday.

Sri Lankans put up a score of 201 after going to bat first. Kusal Perera and skipper Dimuth Karunaratne played well together and scored 92 runs for the opening wicket.

At the end of the 33rd over, the match was halted due to rain. After the rain, the game became a 41 over per side match.

Afghanistan got off to a stable start as openers Mohammad Shahzad and Hazratullah Zazao scored an easy 34 in five overs.

Sri Lanka then managed to break the partnership as Shahzad was sent back to pavilion by Lasith Malinga. The team then managed to lose two more wickets quickly.

The middle order also did not manage to hold the forth with Nabi also failing to leave a mark. He scored a good knock of 57 when his wicket was taken and Afghanistan had to score 130 runs more.

Skipper Gulbadan Naib and Zadran tried to make a comeback by putting up a 64 run stand but did not manage to get a win for the team.

The team folded on 152 runs all out while Sri Lanka made 201 all out.

Sri Lanka will next face Pakistan on June 7 and Afghanistan will face New Zealand on June 8.
