While the Team Blue decimated the Aussies in the World Cup, a British chef was winning hearts outside the Oval. The Indian audiences who had come to the stadium to watch the match got an authentic taste of India, specifically Kolkata.

British food entrepreneur Angus Denoon, the man who came up with ‘Everybody Love Love Jhal Muri Express’ prepared the local street food of Kolkata, Jhalmuri for the spectators. A makeshift colourful stall with bright yellow and red garlands was a great sight and the man in action became a viral sensation.

India is rich with street food and most cities have their own flavour. Jhalmuri hails from Kolkata and has a mix of puffed rice, an assortment of spices, vegetables, chutney and bhujia. Denoon came across the street food in Kolkata and immediately fell in love with the flavours. He was fascinated by the pace at which the vendor—located near the old Dunlop Building on the corner of Mirza Ghalib Street and Royd Street—made this snack. He took the recipe back to England and decided to whip it up for the locals and Indians.

Denoon’s Jhalmuri is famous now and he travels to various music festivals across the world and also caters at the weddings of the rich and famous in London.
